A Day Celebrating Ayurveda, Wellness & Tradition

On 3rd August 2025, the serene premises of Shree Nithyananda Yogashrama, Kondevoor Mutt, came alive with an enriching celebration of Ayurveda during the auspicious Karkataka month. The event, attended by hundreds of devotees, health enthusiasts, and community members, brought together renowned Ayurvedic practitioners from Kerala and Karnataka. It was a rare blend of tradition, wellness knowledge, and honouring excellence in the field of Ayurveda.

Morning Knowledge Sessions on Medicinal Plants and Ayurvedic Porridge

The programme opened at 9:00 AM with an enlightening session by Sri Pavithran Gurukkal Kelakam, who spoke (in Malayalam) about the identification, use, and cultivation of medicinal plants. Participants appreciated the hands-on insights into herbs that are easily found in local environments.

At 10:00 AMSri T.T. Aravindakshan Vaidyar delivered an engaging session (in Malayalam) on the significance of medicinal porridge during the Karkataka month. He explained how “Karkkidaka Kanji,” a herbal rice porridge, detoxifies the body and strengthens immunity during the monsoon season.

Following this, at 10:40 AMDr. Ganesh Kumar, Medical Officer from Paivallike, addressed the audience in Kannada, elaborating on the importance of medicinal porridge and practical home remedies for daily wellness. His talk ensured inclusivity for Kannada-speaking attendees, emphasising Ayurveda’s accessibility for all.

Stage Programme and Ayushree 2025 Award Presentation

The Stage Programme commenced at 11:30 AM, beginning with Aashirvachana (Blessings) from Paramapoojya Sri Sri Yogananda Saraswati Swamiji, who spoke about the need to preserve and promote time-tested health practices for future generations.

Dr. Radhakrishna Bandyodu, a renowned doctor, presided over the function, acknowledging the rich legacy of Ayurveda and the significance of such community health gatherings.

The occasion was graced by eminent personalities:

  •  Sri Rajmohan Unnithan – Member of Parliament, Kasaragod

  •  Sri Jitendra Kottari – Entrepreneur, Mangalore

  •  Dr. Sandeep Bekal – Principal, Sharada Ayurveda College, Talapady

  •  Sri Jayadevan Kannur – President, Nityananda Ayurveda Samrakshana Samithi, Kerala

In a special felicitation ceremony, Dr. D. Ramanathan, M.D., Seetharam Ayurveda Speciality Hospital, Thrissur, was honoured for his significant contributions to Ayurvedic medicine and community health awareness.

The highlight of the event was the presentation of the prestigious “Ayushree 2025” Award, recognising outstanding service and dedication in the promotion and practice of Ayurveda. The award served as a reminder of the Yogashrama’s commitment to encouraging excellence in the field.

Light refreshments, including samples of the traditional medicinal porridge, were served to guests, allowing them to experience its taste and benefits firsthand.
